Limburg is known for its mining history. Even years after the mine closures, the people of Limburg are still proud of their heritage. Everywhere, you can find remains and monuments reminding us of this period. Therefore, in 2015, in the Year of the Mines, it seemed timely to put together an interesting, historical cycle route, using time frames to reflect the former lay-outs of these historic locations. This way, you get to see the most important reminders of the mining industry from the Sittard-Geleen area.

However, there is much more to see and do: the old bastion of the Sanderbout Fortress, the wayside chapels on the magical Kollenberg mountain in Sittard, and the Pinkpop Expo with its legendary music festival photos, are just a few examples of the many attractions. This spectacular route, which starts at the Market square in Geleen, is not signposted, however, the route description can be downloaded separately.
