Abshoven convent

The Abshoven convent was built as a farmhouse in 1715. The surrounding neighbourhood also acquired the name of Abshoven. At the beginning of the 20th century, the monastic farm became a fully-fledged convent. From 1901 onwards, this notable edifice functioned as a nun’s convent and also housed a children’s home, Huize Abshoven. In 1995 fire broke out in the building, which had been standing vacant for some time. After the fire, the complex fell into disrepair, but the exterior of the chapel and the convent have now been completely renovated. In July 2014, this beautiful building was given a new lease of life as the Brasserie Abshaove.
