This is the Cookie Policy of Foundation VVV Zuid-Limburg (a.k.a. ‘Visit Zuid-Limburg’). It explains how cookies and comparable technologies are used on www.visitzuidlimburg.nl (‘the website’).

What are cookies?
The website places cookies. Cookies are small text files placed by an internet page on a pc, tablet, or mobile telephone. These cookies are used to improve the monitoring of functionality and website visits. For example, they enable Visit Zuid-Limburg to see how many people have visited the website over a certain period.

Why cookies?
Web pages do not have a memory. A visitor who surfs from one page to another within a website is recognised as a new visitor each time. Cookies ensure that a website continues to recognize your browser.

What cookies do we use?
We use the following cookies (and comparable technology):

• Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to collate statistics about the use of, and visits to, the website. Google Analytics places a permanent cookie which records your use of the website. The data is analysed by Google and the results of the analysis sent to Visit Zuid-Limburg. We have entered into a data processor contract with Google and thereby only forward data to Google with your permission. If you don’t give your permission, we will only forward anonymized information to Google. All the settings that we have put in place are with this purpose in mind.
• DoubleClick. This is what is known as a ‘tracking cookie’ from Google. It registers and analyses your use of our website so that Visit Zuid-Limburg can present you with relevant advertisements on other websites. This cookie will only be placed with the permission of the visitor.
• Facebook cookies. We use tracking cookies from Facebook to measure, optimize, and develop the target groups for our advertising campaigns on Facebook. They also enable you to share information with your family and friends via social media. This cookie will also only be placed with the permission of the visitor.
• Hotjar. We use Hotjar to help improve our website. The data is anonymized. We have entered into a data processor contract with Hotjar.
• Functional cookies. We also use functional cookies without which our website cannot function properly. For this reason, you cannot switch these off.

Permission
When you visit our website we will ask your permission to use cookies by showing a clear message. By clicking on ‘agreed’ you give your permission and accept the (indicated) cookies from our website. If you don’t give your permission, or only limited permission, to place cookies, you may find the website less accessible.

How long cookies remains
Most cookies used by www.visitzuidlimburg.nl www.visitzuidlimburg.nl are session cookies. This means that they are automatically deleted from your hard drive when you end your session (i.e. when you log out or shut your web browser). The permanent cookies remain for a longer time, varying between a few hours and a few years. You can delete the permanent cookies via the browser settings.
