St Joep Market

Those who enjoy an old-fashioned street market can indulge their desires at the St Joep Market in Sittard. History tells us that the mayor of Sittard gave permission for a market to be held as far back as 1802. After the long winter break, St Joep marks the start of a new season for stallholders, who find themselves wishing each other a Happy New Year. The five kilometres and more of market stalls is a bargain hunter’s delight: not only is there a wonderful atmosphere, but there are fantastic bargains to be had.

The Paasmarkt - or Easter Market - in Born has become a well-established tradition. On Easter Monday, more than two hundred market traders set up their stalls and trading units in the centre. Wrestle your way through the crowds to get the bargains, admire the numerous flower and plant stalls, and enjoy browsing the memorabilia. A memorable day out for the bargain hunters amongst you!

Weekly market, Sittard

Sittard’s weekly market, set against a magnificent array of historic street frontages, has an international allure and is held every Thursday from 8 am to 2 pm. There are always excellent bargains to be had, as well as fresh seasonal produce and other unique merchandise. Meanwhile, Geleen’s colourful Saturday market is a melting pot of different cultures. Not only does this popular multicultural market sell local and regional fare, diverse specialities are sold from all corners of the globe here too. And beating down a bargain is just part and parcel of the fun! The market is held every Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Visitors to Sittard-Geleen can choose from a range of on-street and multi-storey car-parking facilities. The town-centre’s amenities are within easy access, with ample car-parking close-by. Paid parking in Sittard-Geleen applies on weekdays from 9 am to 7 pm, for Sunday shopping from 12 noon to 6 pm and for late-night shopping (on Thursdays) from 9 am to 10 pm.
